Super Bowl Preview

Posted by

On Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs will take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Superbowl 55. It will take place at Raymond James Stadium, the Buccaneers’ home. We will see two great teams take on each other for the second time this season. It will feature two amazing offenses and two of the best quarterbacks in the league, Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes. All around, it will be an exciting game. This is our Super Bowl Preview.

The Chiefs looking to defend the crown

The Chiefs are going into the big game three-point favorites. They are led by star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes had another outstanding year as he had a 66.3% completion rating, 4,740 yards, 38 touchdowns, and only six interceptions. Since he had those numbers, the Chiefs went 14-1, rolling past all competition. They were the first seed in the AFC, so they had a bye. Kansas City ended up playing the Browns in a close game but then destroyed the Bills in the AFC championship.

Mahomes wasn’t the only reason the Chiefs’ offense was so good, they also had two great players in Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. Hill, an insanely fast wide receiver, had 87 receptions, 1,276 receiving yards, 14 receiving yards per reception, and 15 touchdowns. Hill has been regarded by many as one of the best receivers in the league, and it’s clear why. He is hard to guard and even harder to stop once he gets the ball. The other standout, Travis Kelce, has been a powerhouse on offense. He has had 105 receptions, 1,416 receiving yards, and 11 TDs. He is known as the best tight end in the NFL, and I think he will greatly affect the game.

It’s not all about offense though, and the Chiefs know that. Their best defensive player is a strong safety, Tyrann Mathieu. He had six interceptions and has been a vocal leader for the defense. The Chiefs are a talented young team going for their second straight Super Bowl.

The Brady Bunch

Now, let’s continue our Super Bowl Preview. The team the Chiefs will face will be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs are led by the greatest QB of all-time, Tom Brady. This will be Brady’s first Super Bowl not in the Patriots’ uniform, which feels weird for many people.  All around, he has had a good year – he had a 65.7% completion rating, 4,633 passing yards, 40 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. Amazing stats for a 43-year-old QB. He led the team to an 11-5 record, and they had an opposite path to the Super Bowl than the Chiefs. First off, they didn’t have a bye, and since they were the fifth seed, they played every game on the road. The Buccaneers beat the Washington Football Team, Saints, and the first-seeded Packers. This run was a surprise to most people as since the Buccaneers were so old and only 11-5, it seemed like they were a second-round exit.

As far as offensive weapons go, they have two underrated players in, Mike Evans and Ronald Jones ll. Evans had 70 completions, 1,006 receiving yards, and 13 touchdowns. This was a bit of a struggling year for him, but he still was the main target for Brady. The other weapon has been Ronald Jones ll. He has been the primary running back for the team and had 192 rushes, 978 rushing yards, and seven touchdowns. The Bucs offense doesn’t really have a standout, but they fit perfectly together and get the job done.

As far as defense goes, they are pretty good. Like the offense, they have a lot of players that aren’t amazing but work together and complete the tasks. One of those players is Jason Pierre-Paul. Paul recorded 9.5 sacks, 34 solo tackles, and four forced fumbles this season. He has been a defensive line powerhouse. This Bucs team is in many ways the opposite of the Chiefs, but we will see how they do against the young talent.

Brady vs Mahomes H2H

Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes have played each other in many important and close games. In total, they have played each other four times, each winning twice. The latest was in Week 12 when Mahomes had 462 passing yards, and Hill added 269 receiving yards. It was a three-point game that went down to the wire. The most memorable was in the 2018 AFC championship. It went down to overtime, with both teams playing each other fiercely. In the end, the Patriots got the ball first in OT and marched down and scored, so they won 37-31. This was when Mahomes wasn’t as experienced enough, so you can’t count it against him. As you can see from these two games, when two QBs as great as Mahomes and Brady play, it’s usually a super competitive game that goes down to the wire. That could very well happen in the Super Bowl.

The Prediction

As for who I think will win, I have to go with the Chiefs. I could see it going either way, but I think the Chief’s offense will be too hard for the Bucs to stop. I think the Chiefs will win by 7, but I wouldn’t count Brady out. Both these QBs are some of the best in the game, and it should be close. Even NFL experts are stumped on who will win.

In the end, this should be an exciting game. It’s one of the best postseason QBs of all-time versus the young star. It should be a treat for NFL and sports fans alike, and it will definitely be exciting. This Super Bowl should not disappoint.
