Monchengladbach vs Dortmund Preview

With only one point separating the two sides, Gladbach is hoping to leapfrog Dortmund with a win on Friday. Check out our Monchengladbach vs Dortmund Preview.

Borussia Monchengladbach Recent Form & Team News

Borussia Monchengladbach’s 1-0 win in midweek gave them a third victory via a one goal-margin from their last four Bundesliga games (W3, D1). However, despite that form, it’s worth noting that the reverse fixture was the only league game this season in which Gladbach failed to score (0-3), and was one of three Bundesliga games that saw them concede first (W1, D1, L1).

The hosts have lost only once at home this Bundesliga campaign (W4, D4, L1) and are yet to lose a first half here (HT: W3, D6). It’s rare for Gladbach to excel over both periods though, which is why they’ve won both halves just once at home in the Bundesliga so far, and have scored during both halves just twice. Furthermore, four of their five won/lost home league games have been decided by a one-goal margin.

Player to watch: Jonas Hofmann scored twice in Gladbach’s famous comeback home win over Bayern Munich earlier this month.

Marco Rose will be without Valentino Lazaro (muscle), while Denis Zakaria (knock) is questionable to play.

Borussia Dortmund Recent Form & Team News

Dortmund are winless in two matches (D1, L1) and have struggled after conceding first, winning just one of eight Bundesliga games when doing so (W1, D2, L5) – seven of which came across their last ten matches! However in contrast, Dortmund have won eight of nine after scoring first (W8, L1).

Although losing two of their last three away league games (W1, L2), the visitors have still collected more points away than at home (W5, D1, L3). However they are yet to lead at HT away this Bundesliga campaign, and therefore Dortmund have scored 15 of their 16 away league goals after HT, subsequently returning a positive second-half record (2H: W6, D1, L2).

Player to watch: Dortmund’s biggest threat could be Erling Haaland, who scored a brace in their last away league win, and a double in the reverse fixture too.

Hot streak: Dortmund have won the last 12 competitive H2Hs – seven featured both teams scoring.

Edin Terzic cannot count on Thomas Delaney (suspension), Thorgan Hazard (muscle), Marcel Schmelzer (knee), Axel Witsel (Achilles tendon), and Dan-Axel Zagadou (muscle).
