Manchester City Recent Form & Team News

Manchester City became the first side to register five consecutive Premier League wins this season as they beat Palace 4-0 last time out. They continued an unbeaten run that stretches back 15 competitive matches (W12, D3), and which heralds in manager Pep Guardiola’s 50th birthday with a 384th victory from 515 games under his leadership (all sides) during his forties. That result also gave City a ninth clean sheet after 17 rounds – the most they’ve ever managed at this stage of a PL campaign.

Now just two points behind first place ahead of the midweek round, and with a game in hand, City are closing in on their title rivals and enter this clash as comfortable favorites after leading at HT and winning to nil in six of their nine PL home matches so far (D2, L1).

Player to watch: Phil Foden will look to strike early after netting before HT in three of City’s last five games.

Hot streak: City have won despite a -2 handicap in six of the last seven PL home H2Hs.

Pep Guardiola cannot count on Sergio Aguero (illness). Nathan Ake (muscle), Eric Garcia (illness), and Aymeric Laporte (thigh) are questionable.

Aston Villa Recent Form & Team News

This game sees Aston Villa play a fourth straight match against a team from last season’s top four, with predictable results so far (D1, L2). That’s after registering 11 points in the Premier League during December – their most in a single month since April 2010. However that has helped Villa to record 26 points after 15 games, a huge improvement on the 15 they managed after 15 rounds during 2019/20.

Impressively, 61.54% of their points this season have come on the road, where only three teams have won more games (W5, D1, L2). Villa’s defense has been their most impressive aspect, conceding a league-low 0.63 goals per road trip, and securing a clean sheet in all five PL away victories.

Player to watch: Anwar El-Ghazi scored four goals across their last four PL matches.

Dean Smith will be without Trezeguet (thigh) and Wesley (knee).
