Los Rojiblancos are trying to level with the visitors in LaLiga standings when they meet on Saturday. An exciting clash will take place at Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, and this is our Sevilla vs Real Sociedad Preview.
Sevilla Recent Form & Team News
Sevilla continue through their poorest LaLiga season since 2015/16, despite an ongoing salvage operation that’s taken them into the top six and seen them lose only to Real Madrid across their last nine league encounters (W6, D2). A second consecutive clean sheet at home is likely to net them three more points, given their six clean sheets at home or away this LL season have all led to victory.
Yet to concede a match opener inside the first 30 minutes at home, Sevilla have established a sound home record on the back of five opening goals (W4, D1), with two of their last three coming inside the first minutes. Furthermore, their solid defending has contributed to their last seven league fixtures at all venues producing fewer than 2.5 total goals.
Player to watch: With Lucas Ocampos out through injury, Suso stands as Sevilla’s only player to score in two of their last four LL games.
Julen Lopetegui cannot count on Sergio Escudero (elbow), Carlos Fernandez (muscle), and Jesus Navas (muscle). Lucas Ocampos (muscle) and Tomas Vaclik are also out.
Real Sociedad Recent Form & Team News
Given they’re still enjoying their best season in four years, Real Sociedad are arguably in a strong position to snap a run of five consecutive H2Hs without a victory (D2, L3). They lost their last three trips to Sevilla despite scoring twice in each of the last two.
It appears their defending has been key to their traveling fortunes throughout the season though, as when conceding two goals in a LaLiga away game, Sociedad have gone on to lose both occasions, forming part of a winless record of D1, L2 as an outsider this season.
Player to watch: Recently returning from injury, Mikel Oyarzabal could be a threat after scoring Sociedad’s first goal in two of the last three H2Hs. He also scored in six of his last nine LL appearances.
Hot stat: The last six H2Hs were all level at HT (0-0 x3; 1-1 x3).
Imanol Alguacil will be without Aritz Elustondo (ankle), Adnan Januzaj (muscle), Nacho Monreal (thigh), and Miguel Angel Moya (knee). Luca Sangalli (knee), David Silva (muscle), Alex Sola (knee), and Joseba Zaldua (muscle) are also unavailable.
