The Toffees could climb up to 2nd place in the Premier League with three points against the Hammers. Take a look at our Everton vs West Ham United Preview as we start the New Year in style!
Everton Recent Form & Team News
Everton’s Boxing Day win over Sheffield United was their fourth consecutive Premier League victory for the second time this term. The last time the Toffees managed to do this feat was in 1986/87 when they won the title! Carlo Ancelotti can thank his solid defense for those strong results of late as Everton haven’t allowed more than a goal in six PL games. They also didn’t concede more than three shots on target in any of the last five matches in the league.
Although they are usually the most dangerous in the opening 45 minutes, Everton scored a late goal to take three points at Bramall Lane. They’ve scored 61.54% of their PL goals before the interval while trailing at halftime on just two occasions (HT: W7, D6, L2). The Toffees still didn’t score at Goodison Par in the first 15 minutes, but they allowed two goals in that span.
Player to watch: Gylfi Sigurðsson had a hand in three of Everton’s last six Premier League goals (two goals, one assist). The midfielder found the back of the net in this fixture last season.
Hot stat: Everton won more PL matches against West Ham (26) than against any other team in the league.
Carlo Ancelotti will be without Allan (thigh), Fabian Delph (thigh), and Lucas Digne (ankle). Jean-Philippe Gbamin (Achilles tendon) and James Rodriguez (calf) are also out.
West Ham United Recent Form & Team News
West Ham United are experiencing their best start after 16 Premier League games since the 2015/16 season. Still, they won just one of their last six league matches (W1, D3, L2), and allowed the opening goal in the first 45 minutes in four of those six. Furthermore, there were only four teams with a higher goals allowed average than the Hammers’ of 1.67 during that period.
The Hammers failed to score in three of their previous four PL travels to Goodison Park (W1, L3). They are facing Everton, who had three extra days of rest. West Ham also conceded precisely one goal in the opening half in their previous three matches at this venue.
Player to watch: Tomáš Souček scored three goals in his last six Premier League games, with two of those arriving before the break.
David Moyes cannot count on Arthur Masuaku (knee), but all the other players are healthy and at coach’s disposal.
