The Great Danes are looking to stay atop of Ligue 1, while La Paillade are hoping to break into the top four with a win. Here is our Montpellier vs Lille Preview.
Montpellier Recent Form & Team News
Montpellier’s 2-2 draw with Stade Brestois 29 (Dec 20) was their first stalemate in nine Ligue 1 matches (W5, L3) and kept them firmly in the mix for European qualification (W8, D3, L5). A force as games progress, they’ve netted after the 65th minute in five of their last seven league fixtures.
However, La Paillade have not kept a clean sheet in any of their eight L1 home games this term, and have conceded 2+ goals in their last four. Without a home league draw this season (W4, L4), they’ve also conceded five (62.5%) of eight second-half goals at home after the 75th minute. Nevertheless, they’ve only been trailing at HT once in home league matches this term (HT: W3, D4).
Player to watch: Montpellier are unbeaten across the last nine competitive goalscoring games that Andy Delort has found the net (W7, D2) since he scored during last year’s 2-1 defeat at Lille.
Michel Der Zakarian will be without Teji Savanier (thigh), but the rest of the players are healthy and ready to go.
Lille Recent Form & Team News
Also drawing last time out, Lille’s goalless outing against Paris Saint-Germain (Dec 20) was further evidence to suggest they are genuine title contenders and it extended their unbeaten L1 run to six games (W4, D2). Another win here should see them top of the table at Christmas and they’ll take confidence from a four-match unbeaten record in L1 H2Hs against their opponents (W2, D2).
Winning on the road against Dijon (Dec 16) saw Le LOSC improve their L1 away record this term (W3, D3, L1). They are now unbeaten in 83.33% of such matches entered as favorites this campaign. This is perhaps unsurprising considering they’ve scored in ten consecutive L1 away games.
Player to watch: If the visitors repeat that H2H win then Timothy Weah may be in the mix. His two competitive goals this term came after the 70th minute.
Hot stat: Lille are the only team in Ligue 1 this season that are yet to finish a game having conceded exactly two goals.
Christophe Galtier cannot count on Luiz Araujo (muscle), Jeremy Pied (muscle), and Renato Sanches (muscle).
