The hosts are desperate to snap an eight-game winless run when they welcome Los Colchoneros at Reale Seguros Stadium on Tuesday. Stay with us for the Real Sociedad vs Atletico Madrid Preview.
Real Sociedad Recent Form & Team News
Now on a five-match winless LaLiga streak (D3, L2), Real Sociedad’s early title bid seems to have run out of steam. An average of only 0.8 goals netted per match in that negative span, compared to 2.1 in the first ten rounds, is an obvious reason behind that struggle. It will be a considerable worry as Sociedad host the league leaders Atletico Madrid.
Two straight 1-1 stalemates at Reale Seguros Stadium have Sociedad sliding down the home form standings as well (W3, D3, L1). They did score before halftime in five consecutive LL home games, displaying their early attacking threat. However, the H2H history is telling us they won’t play another draw as 19 home H2H duels in a row have produced a winner (W12, L7).
Player to watch: Alexander Isak netted last time out, in what was his second opening goal in a game this LL season.
Hot stat: Even five first-half penalties occurred in Sociedad’s previous five LL home matches!
Imanol Alguacil cannot count on Andoni Gorosabel (ankle), Jon Guridi (muscle), and Asier Illarramendi (hip). Adnan Januzaj (muscle), Miguel Angel Moya (knee), Luca Sangalli (knee), Alex Sola (knee), and Joseba Zaldua (muscle) are also out.
Atletico Madrid Recent Form & Team News
Atletico secured their ninth win of the LaLiga season at the weekend. It was their sixth to see them up at halftime, as they continued their title hunt. An average of 2.0 goals scored per LL contest has been useful, but their defense is the biggest strength of this team. Los Colchoneros allowed an average of only 0.42 goals per game – the best in Europe’s top five leagues.
The visiting side did lose its first road match of the LL season in their last t road trip (W3, D1, L1). That was the only time they’ve allowed an opening goal away from home in the league thus far, and the only time they conceded before the interval. Atletico don’t score a lot of first-half goals, though, and actually scored four of their six away league goals in the final 30 minutes of the games.
Player to watch: Luis Suárez will likely be Atletico’s danger-man. The Uruguayan played his 200th LaLiga match at the weekend, and scored his 23rd brace along the way.
Diego Simeone will be without Hector Herrera (muscle) and Joao Felix (ribs).
