One of the most interesting matches of the Premier League Round 14 will take place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday. Have a look at our Tottenham Hotspur vs Leicester City Preview.
Tottenham Hotspur Recent Form & Team News
Tottenham Hotspur lost to Liverpool in the last round and failed to to stay atop of the Premier League. It was their first defeat since the opening round (W7, D4). That was also the first time Spurs allowed more than once in eight PL games, and Liverpool’s late winner was Tottenham’s seventh second-half goal conceded (of nine) this season to arrive in the final 15 minutes.
The only PL team yet to allow a first-half goal at home (HT: W5, D1), Tottenham are unbeaten here in five league games (W3, D2). Unsurprisingly, they’ve avoided loss in 80% of PL home matches in which they were the favorites. Spurs only lost one of the previous seven league H2H duels as hosts (W4, D2).
Player to watch: Son Heung-min has scored as many PL goals (11) in 13 appearances this term as he did across the entirety of last season.
Hot stat: There’s been an average of 3.91 goals per game across the last 11 league H2Hs, three of which featured over 6.5 goals!
Jose Mourinho will be without Erik Lamela (calf) and Japhet Tanganga (shoulder), while Gareth Bale is questionable due to an illness.
Leicester City Recent Form & Team News
Leicester City’s 2-0 loss to Everton showed the Foxes’ vulnerability from set-pieces. Namely, they’ve allowed seven Premier League goals from corners this year, two more than they did in the entire last campaign. But considering they scored a league-high nine goals in the final 15 minutes, they will aim to profit from their hosts’ late-game problems.
Even seven of those late goals came on the road (W5, L1), where Leicester City play way better than at home turf. Their away league matches produced an entertaining average of 3.67 goals per contest. Meanwhile, before this round, only Manchester United scored in both halves on the road more often than Brendan Rodgers’ side this term (three).
Player to watch: Jamie Vardy scored five goals for Leicester against Tottenham.
Rodgers cannot count on Ricardo Pereira (groin) and Caglar Soyuncu (hip). Daniel Amartey (thigh) and Timothy Castagne (thigh) are questionable to feature.
