After two consecutive draws, the Rossoneri could lose the leading position in Serie A if they fail to get three points at Mapei Stadium on Sunday. Check out what we think of the game in our Sassuolo vs AC Milan Preview.
Sassuolo Recent Form & Team News
Sassuolo’s lightning start to the Serie A campaign – which took them into the top two for several rounds – has died out recently as they’ve won just once across their previous four SA matches (W1, D2, L1). Still, five clean sheets across their last seven games shows they’re still a force to be reckoned with, especially considering they bring an 80% unbeaten rate as a SA outsider into this clash (W2, D2, L1).
However, Sassuolo’s only win across their last four SA home matches came against newly-promoted Benevento, and the sole SA home game they played this season against a team currently above them in the table ended in a 3-0 HT/FT defeat. The only two times they scored first here this season they won though, but remain winless when conceding the opener (D2, L1).
Player to watch: Sassuolo’s Francesco Caputo scored in the last H2H, and all five of his goals this SA campaign have arrived after HT.
Hot streak: There’s been 4+ yellow cards in Sassuolo’s last eight matches.
Roberto De Zerbi cannot count on Manuel Locatelli (suspension) and Filippo Romagna (knee).
AC Milan Recent Form & Team News
Although fighting back twice to secure a point at Genoa in midweek, there’s no doubt AC Milan will be disappointed in recording consecutive 2-2 draws. However, those results form part of a remarkable record-breaking run that has seen AC score 2+ goals in 14 straight Serie A fixtures, ending a record previously set back in 1948. It also extended AC’s top-flight scoring streak to 32 games – the longest current run across Europe’s top five divisions.
The visitors have had no fear on the road, and are comfortably the division’s best away side ahead of this round (W5, D1). Much of that has been down to starting well, and subsequently leading at HT in all five victories, something AC achieved in all four previous H2Hs held here too.
Player to watch: Franck Kessié has scored a first-half opener in two of AC’s last three SA away wins.
Stefano Pioli will be without Ismael Bennacer (thigh), Matteo Gabbia (knee), Theo Hernandez (muscle), Simon Kjaer (muscle), and Ante Rebic (illness). Zlatan Ibrahimovic is questionable to feature on Sunday.
