An exciting Serie A clash will be played on Sunday when the Goddess welcome the visitors from the country’s capital. Take a look at our Atalanta vs AS Roma Preview for Round 13 encounter.
Atalanta Recent Form & Team News
After a 1-1 draw last time out in Serie A, Atalanta have now dropped points in six of their last eight league games (W2, D3, L3). This sequence saw Atalanta score a meager nine goals – utterly paling in comparison to the 13 scored in just three prior games. Additionally, Atalanta failed to score before HT in six of the aforementioned eight SA games.
On a more positive note, Atalanta have scored 2+ goals in their last five H2Hs vs Roma, and have avoided defeat in ten of their last 11 SA clashes with ‘La Lupa’ (W5, D5, L1). That could prove vital to overturning their poor home returns this season (W2, D1, L2), where the two wins have come by a three-goal margin and the losses via a two-goal margin.
Player to watch: Atalanta’s Duván Zapata has scored both of his SA goals this campaign at home, whilst providing two of his three campaign assists.
Hot stat: Atalanta haven’t won consecutive SA home H2Hs since September 1964 (three).
Gian Piero Gasperini will be without Mattia Caldara (Achilles tendon), Alejandro Gomez, and Mario Pasalic (muscle). Rafael Toloi is questionable with a muscle injury.
AS Roma Recent Form & Team News
Scoring 3+ goals in a joint-league high six Serie A games so far, Roma won 3-1 against Torino last time around with two goals before the break. As such, seven of their last eight SA strikes have arrived before HT. Emphatic league wins/losses are regular, with six of Roma’s seven wins and both their defeats (including the walkover) arriving via a 2+ goal margin.
Furthermore, Roma have scored 3+ goals in 12 SA away games under Paulo Fonseca – at least three more than any other team since the start of last season. Excluding the walkover, Roma have won three of their five SA road trips (W3, D1, L1) scoring first in each win.
Player to watch: Henrikh Mkhitaryan has seven SA goals and five assists, which is the most goal involvements for any midfielder in the top-five European Leagues.
Paulo Fonseca cannot count on Javier Pastore (hip), Davide Santon (illness), and Nicolo Zaniolo (knee). Lorenzo Pellegrini is dealing with an ankle injury and is questionable to feature.
