The derby of Ligue 1 Round 14 will take place at Parc des Princes, and this is our PSG vs Lyon Preview for this exciting fixture.
PSG Recent Form & Team News
Paris Saint-Germain may sit top of the league ahead of this gameweek, but one win from their last three Ligue 1 matches (D1, L1) will inspire the division’s form side Lyon to try and grab their first top-flight win at the Parc des Princes since October 2007, a result that would see them leapfrog their hosts in the table.
Unbeaten in five L1 home games (W4, D1) after scoring two first-half goals and leading at HT in each of the last four, shows PSG should still be feared though. However, they remain winless at home in the three competitive matches that they conceded first this season (D1, L2), which suggests catching the reigning champions off guard early is a successful tactic.
Player to watch: Kylian Mbappé netted his 100th PSG goal in all competitions during the last round, and added a brace in midweek – of those 102 goals, 68 came in the second half, and 99 inside the penalty area.
Thomas Tuchel cannot count on Juan Bernat (knee), Mauro Icardi (groin), and Pablo Sarabia (muscle). Julian Draxler is questionable to feature due to a thigh injury.
Lyon Recent Form & Team News
Lyon’s 3-1 win in their last road trip gave them a tenth straight unbeaten Ligue 1 fixture – their best such run since May 2018. What may worry PSG more though, is that Lyon have scored the opening goal in three of their last four L1 away games (W3, D1), and have pinned back their opponents on the day within 20 minutes in two of the three away games this term that they conceded first.
Still, PSG start this round as the division’s highest home scorers after netting an average of 2.67 goals per match here, and subsequently they will surely cause problems for Lyon who have seen both teams score in five of their last six away league games (W3, D2, L1).
Player to watch: Karl Toko Ekambi has scored three goals across Lyon’s last two fixtures – twice in the 15 minutes following HT.
Hot stat: Six of the last ten L1 H2Hs produced at least two first-half goals.
Rudi Garcia will be without Mathis Ryan Cherki (suspension), but all the other players are ready and at coach’s disposal.
