Champions League Betting Pick: Barcelona vs Inter

Posted by

Both teams are looking for the first win of this year’s edition of UCL as Barcelona welcome Inter tonight, so check out our Champions League Betting Pick for this encounter. Blaugrana had luck in Germany against Dortmund in a 0-0 draw as Marc-Andre ter Stegen saved Marco Reus’ penalty to earn a point. Inter, on the other hand, salvaged a point at home against Slavia Prague as Nicolo Barella scored in injury time. The hosts are firm favourites to get a win here, but it’s not going to be easy against Nerazzurri who are unbeaten this season.

Barcelona Team News and Latest Form

If history repeats itself, there will be only one winner here. Barcelona have won all four previous home H2Hs to nil, and considering they’ve won their opening three LaLiga home games this term – albeit with both teams scoring – their favourites tag appears justified.

However, Barcelona’s goalless draw at Dortmund on Champions League matchday one now means they’ve gone two UEFA games without scoring. The last and only time they went three without finding the net was back in 1987/88. So the pressure is on, but the hosts don’t usually crumble – they haven’t lost a CL home game since May 2013 (W29, D3 following).

Luis Suárez netted Barcelona’s opener on Saturday – the last five games he’s scored in, Barcelona won by at least a two-goal margin. Barcelona have scored at least twice in nine of their previous ten Champions League home games.

Ernesto Valverde cannot count on Jordi Alba (thigh), Samuel Umtiti (foot), and Anssumane Fati (knee).

Inter Team News and Latest Form

Inter salvaged a draw with a last-gasp goal against Slavia Prague on matchday one, marking their fifth consecutive winless CL match (D3, L2). Yet notably, that draw is sandwiched between a perfect start to the Serie A campaign (W6). It is their best since 1966/67 – which has included four wins to nil and seen Inter leading at half-time on five occasions.

However, the visitors have struggled against Spanish opposition, winning just three of 19 previous away games against Spanish teams (D2, L14). If they are to secure a surprise victory here, expect it to be tight. Inter’s last seven Champions League away victories (neutral venues excluded) arrived by a single-goal margin.

Stefano Sensi scored the match opener in Inter’s last game – three of his previous four goals have been first-half game-opening strikes. Seven of Inter’s last nine CL away losses came to nil.

Antonio Conte will be without Romelu Lukaku, who is struggling with a muscle injury.

Barcelona vs Inter Head to Head

These rivals have met on eight occasions in this century, and Barca leads with four wins while Inter have one victory. They played in the group stage last year as well; Barcelona won 2-0 here while the match in Italy finished 1-1. Blaugrana won all four H2H games at Camp Nou and kept the clean sheet in the process.

Barcelona vs Inter Champions League Betting Pick

Barcelona scored even 12 goals in three home matches this season, but I don’t think they will score more than two against Inter. The Nerazzurri didn’t concede more than one goal this season, and I am backing Antonio Conte’s side to put up a fight here and not experience a disaster. The hosts are still favourites, and this will likely be Inter’s first defeat of the campaign. That’s why I am backing Barca to win, but my Champions League Betting Pick is Barcelona to win and Under 4 goals at excellent 2.37 (+137) odds.
