Only 12 teams have left in the qualification race for the Champions League, so let’s take a look at our Champions League Betting Prediction for today. We have three games on the schedule for Tuesday, August 20 while three more are awaiting us tomorrow.
Ajax are firm favourites to get a win in Cyprus
The last year Champions League semi-finalists, Ajax, are travelling to southern Europe to face APOEL in Cyprus. The Dutch champions had a tricky job in the previous round against PAOK, but they managed to eliminate the Greeks 5-4 on aggregate. APOEL, on the other hand, lost the first leg to Qarabag at home, 2-1, but they secured a 2-0 victory in Azerbaijan to go through to the qualification final.
Ajax hadn’t lost the competitive match since May when they suffered a home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the second leg of the UCL semis. They are on a three-game winning streak, scoring 21 goals and conceding three in that span. Kasper Dolberg and Quincy Promes are out with injuries while Hakim Ziyech and Noussair Mazraoui are listed as doubtful to face APOEL. These injuries could affect Ajax tonight, but the hosts also have their own selection problems, especially at the back. Praxitelis Vouros and Vujadin Savić are sidelined for this encounter, and APOEL will find it hard to keep their net intact in this one. They do have reliable options in the attack, though, and Ajax are having troubles to keep the clean sheet lately. That’s why my Champions League Betting Prediction for this game is BTTS at 1.72 (-139).
The giant killers are welcoming Slavia
The Romanian champions Cluj made one of the biggest surprises in the qualification thus far as they knocked Celtic out of the competition with a historic 4-3 win in Glasgow. They are only a step away from reaching the Champions League and will face Slavia Prague tonight at home. Slavia conceded just one goal in six competitive matches this season, but the visitors will have a mountain to climb to record a clean sheet this time around.
Cluj scored five goals in two games against Celtic, and I am backing them to get at least one here. The Romanians did keep their net intact in three of previous four home games, but Slavia are a strong team, and I don’t think they will fail to score. The excellent 2.10 (+110) odds on BTTS is something I cannot ignore.
Goals on both sides on the cards in Austria
LASK Linz surprised Basel in the previous round and secured two victories (2-1 and 3-1) to reach the final stage of qualifiers. Club Brugge, on the other hand, fought bravely to defend their minimal 1-0 lead over Dynamo Kyiv and advanced thanks to a 3-3 draw in the second leg in Ukraine.
It’s going to be an intriguing clash that could go either way so that I wouldn’t advise betting on full-time here. The Belgians saved their energy in recent Jupiler League clash with Eupen, which ended 0-0, and I think they’ll be good enough to get a positive result in Linz. I am backing goals on both sides and also double chance on the visitors at 2.60 (+160) because I don’t believe the Austrians can make another shock.
