The 2019 US Open Series continues with the ATP Masters in Cincinnati. There are a lot of interesting matches on Tuesday night, but most of them look tricky to bet on. Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer are massive favorites to beat their rivals, but we have a few Cincinnati Masters betting picks that could earn some nice wages.
Joao Sousa vs. Denis Shapovalov
After a painful second-round loss to Dominic Thiem in Montreal, Denis Shapovalov is a 1.45 fave to beat lucky loser Joao Sousa in the first round of the ATP Masters in Cincinnati. Shapovalov is 16-17 this season, playing below all expectations, but I think he should beat Joao Sousa in Cincinnati.
Shapovalov loves to play on a hard court, while Sousa is a typical clay-court player. Likewise, Joao lost seven straight matches to the left-handers, and he won just one of his previous five matches at Cincinnati Masters.
Sousa is 5-6 on a hard court this season and 94-109 in his career, while Shapovalov has a 12-8 record on a hard court in 2019. Although Joao possesses a great forehand, his backhand will struggle a lot against Denis’ forehand, so I’m backing the 20-year old Canadian to reach the next round.
Pablo Carreno-Busta vs. John Isner
One of today’s second-round matches at the ATP Masters in Cincinnati will see Pablo Carreno-Busta meeting John Isner for the first time. Isner is a slight 1.65 fave to beat Carreno-Busta, and I’m backing him to satisfy the odds and reach the round of 16.
Isner opened with a three-set victory over Dusan Lajovic 7-6 1-6 7-5, proving he’s far away from his top form. Since winning the title in Newport in July, Isner couldn’t record two wins in a row. On the other side, Carreno Busta defeated Gilles Simon in straight sets after a couple of wins in the qualifying rounds.
Both these players had serious injury problems this season. While Isner is 22-11 in 2019, Pablo lost 13 of his 24 matches in 2019. The surface in Cincinnati is one of the fastest at the ATP Tour, so I think Isner should win this match in front of the home fans.
The best of the rest Cincinnati Masters betting tips
Stanislas Wawrinka defeated Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets 6-4 6-4 in Montreal last week, and they will meet again in the first round in Cincinnati. Wawrinka won his last four meetings with Dimitrov, dropping just a set in that span. Dimitrov is in a terrible form, losing six of his last eight matches, but he’s a former Cincinnati champion from 2017.
Likewise, Daniil Medvedev humiliated Kyle Edmund 6-3 6-0 on his way to the championship match in Montreal. However, Daniil suffered an identical loss to Rafael Nadal in the final which could affect his confidence. Furthermore, Medvedev played two finals in the last two weeks, so fatigue could be an issue. Therefore, I expect to see a thrilling battle on this one.
