While the USA and England are already among the best four, we’ll find out who will join them following Saturday’s quarterfinals. The first clash of the day will see Italy against Holland which should be a great matchup between two attacking-minded teams.
Italy vs. Holland
- FIFA Women’s World Cup
- Stade du Hainaut, Valenciennes, France
- Saturday 29 June
- 15:00 CET
Italy topped the Group C with six points and a 7:2 goal difference, beating Australia 2-1 and Jamaica 5-0 while losing to Brazil 1-0. The Blues easily outlasted China 2-0 in the round of 16, but they lost Cristiana Girelli who suffered a leg injury. Girelli scored 31 goals in 56 caps, and she’s doubtful for Saturday’s game.
On the other side, Holland topped the Group E with nine points and a 6:2 goal difference, beating New Zealand 1-0, Cameroon 3-1, and Canada 2-1. The Orange eliminated the defending vice-champion Japan 2-1 in the previous round, scoring the winning goal from the penalty kick in the dying moments of the second half.
Forward Lieke Mertens hit a brace against Japan, and she scored 44 goals in 107 caps, while the 22-year old striker Vivianne Miedema bagged 60 goals in 79 caps. This attacking duo will be a huge threat for the Blues’ defense, but Italy also have a strong front line that could easily damage Holland’s defensive line.
Holland won two of its last four meetings with Italy along with a couple of stalemates, while all four contests saw both teams finding the net. The Orange is a +105 (2.05) fave on this one, but I would stick with the totals, considering the teams’ current form and their attacking potential.
The Pick: Over 2.5 Goals at +110 (2.10) or Both Teams to Score YES at -110 (1.90)
